This time we would like to introduce you to our Retrospective section which represents the history of contemporary Lithuanian cinema and contains two great movies from the previous century. And both for free!

Flight over the Atlantic – the most popular movie in Lithuanian film history

Lithuanian pilots Steponas Darius and Stasys Girėnas are preparing for the legendary flight over the Atlantic Ocean in 1933. Their goal is to take off from New York and land in Lithuanian capital of Kaunas with their small single-engine plane “Lituanica”. The film reveals heroic persistence of two Lithuanians who are dreaming to see their homeland again and who are determined to fight for its honor by going on a dangerous 37 hours long journey.

Children from the Hotel America – meet the hippies in Soviet Lithuania

The film revolves around the lives of teenagers in Soviet Lithuania. The protagonists of the film are fans of rock’n’roll music which is banned in the USSR and are interested in the hippie movement, secretly listening to the Luxembourg radio. They all live in a house which was formerly a hotel, called “America”. Events of Kaunas’ spring affect them as they are involved. After their attempt to send a letter to the Luxembourg radio, the teenagers would become suspects to the KGB.
